I’m throwing it waaaay back this Thursday, all the way to August 2014, when it was warm and glorious and we were on a first name basis with the beach.  Although, to be fair, you can’t tell from these images, but it had been pouring rain (with rain and thunder, the whole works) less than an hour before our session.  Colleen and I had texted back and forth, should we cancel, should we not?  We had decided to cancel, then all of a sudden the clouds parted and it was beautiful out.  I texted her back that I was game, if her crew of teens and tots still were — they were!

We spent a beautiful hour down on Minot Beach in Scituate for their family session.  Their blended family had such a strong bond and it was so neat to see; the step-brothers who are also close friends, the way the step-mom and step-dad designations seemed meaningless.  I’m so glad the rain cleared up and we made it happen.

Bartlett family, hope to see you all again on your next vacation in Scituate.  You were fun and real and total sweethearts. It’s 2015 and the snow from this brutal winter is finally beginning to melt and abate, and here I am catching up on blogging sessions from the fall of 2014.   Eeek!  Ignore my neglect, and instead focus on the happy, beautiful S. family’s images presented below.  We had a lot of fun for our family photography session at World’s End, just before the weather turned very cold.

Thanks, S. family, for being GREAT clients — had such a blast with you guys and hope to do it again soon.

Oh man, I love these kids!  I’ve had the pleasure of photographing them with their parents for the past three years.  Repeat clients rock my world and I look SO forward to seeing the kids year over year and finding out how they’ve grown and changed.   This year,  O. and E.’s mom (a bad-ass lawyer from my alma mater, go Eagles!) contacted me with the wonderful idea to photograph the kids at home, in their element doing things they love – golf, lacrosse, riding their bike/scooter, drawing, reading and playing.  So we did just that and had a great time.  Totally different vibe from a traditional family session and very different resulting images, in such a cool way, I think.  When I look at these, I see an awesome album, telling a story of who these wonderful, gorgeous kids are in 2014.

Thank you so much, KBM, for trusting me and giving me the space in your home to interact with your kids and take some fun, different photos for your family.   I’m so thrilled to see you guys each year and admire you so so much.   Tell E. and O., I’m looking forward to more fun and silliness next year ;)

This family is too gorgeous and fun for words — three young children with another one on the way? Needless to say, this mom and dad are MY HEROES!  We had so much fun at World’s End in Hingham on a gorgeous September evening taking these photos.

I had SUCH a great time meeting you guys, B. and K.!  Thank you so much for choosing me to capture your family and being so ready to go and up for anything.  I hope we can do it again soon.   Your kids were fabulous!!  <3

This past August, I had the incredible pleasure of hopping the ferry to Block Island and spending the day documenting the marriage of Emily and Chris along with only their closest family members.   It was an intensely intimate, personal and absolutely perfect day right down to the last detail.  Emily and Chris embody authenticity, one of my most prized values and what I want my photography to always be about.  They dreamed up the perfect wedding for them, and nobody else.   Not too many people, not too much fuss, just a whole lotta love in every moment.   And, lucky lucky me, I got to be there to capture it all!

Before we get to the (many many) images from their union that I’m sharing in this post, I just want to say that, of course, photographing any wedding is a huge honor and a sacred commitment that I am making to the bride and groom (not as sacred as the one they’re making of course, ha).  But, for Emily and Chris’ day, I found that being one of only fourteen people present made me feel that much more in awe of what I was witnessing and made my being there feel even more special and unique.  And I also made such a great connection with them as a couple and individuals, because it so often just us — no huge wedding party, not tons of vendors swarming around — I got to spend a lot of time with just me, my camera and the two of them, or with just two handfuls of their family members.  I was essentially an honorary member of their family that day and, WOW, what an honor and a gift.

Emily and Chris, even in just a short amount of time, in the scheme of things, I can honestly say that I absolutely love you guys and all of your family members rock!  Thank you for trusting me to create forever memories from your wedding day.  It was one of the happiest and best days of my whole year, truly.  <3 <3 <3

Shout outs to the wonderful Koru Spa who did incredible hair and make-up, the Southeast Lighthouse that provided the stunning ceremony backdrop and the Hotel Manisses that served up a gorgeous wedding feast and drinks.

Without further ado, ON TO THE PICTURES!

This throw pillow at Koru summed up the whole day perfectly — “Simple is Beautiful” is so right!
